After the Portuguese left the Moluccas, the dance is still being danced by the people there, until it became a tradition and developed as it is today.

The word "Lenso" itself comes from the local language which means "handkerchief". Because in Lenso dance dancers dancing by using a handkerchief as an attribute manarinya, so many call Tari Lenso.
